Coral Bay, Paphos: the complete beach guide
Is Coral Bay beach worth visiting near Paphos?
Yes — it is the best organised beach in the Paphos region. The sand is pale and the water is calm and clear. The bay is wide enough to avoid feeling cramped. It suits families well and has excellent facilities. About 12 km north of Paphos town.
Paphos’s best organised beach — what to expect
Coral Bay sits in a natural arc of coastline 12 km north of Paphos, near the village of Peyia. The beach is named for the fossilised coral found in the limestone cliffs framing the bay’s northern end. It is approximately 650 metres of pale sand backed by a promenade of beach bars, tavernas, and hire shops — the kind of beach where everything you might need is within 100 metres.
The water here is calmer than Paphos harbour and clearer than Limassol’s beaches. It lacks the extraordinary transparency of Protaras and Ayia Napa (the geology and currents differ), but by any Mediterranean standard it is excellent: Blue Flag awarded, shallow approach, safe for children. On most summer days the water is glass-smooth by mid-morning.
Beach facilities and layout
The beach runs roughly northeast to southwest. The southern end is the most organised, with the highest concentration of sunbed rentals, water sports operators, and tavernas immediately behind the beach. The northern end, near the cliffs, is slightly wilder and better for snorkelling around the rocks.
Sunbed rental: €10–14 per pair (2026 prices), lower than Ayia Napa or Protaras rates.
Water sports: Full range available — paddleboard, kayak, pedalo, banana boat, tube rides, jet ski. Operators are professional and safety briefings are standard.
Facilities: Showers, changing rooms, and toilets at both ends of the beach. Ice cream and drink kiosks throughout.
Parking: Free car park behind the beach. It fills by 11:00 in July and August, but overflow parking along the access road is usually available.
Where to eat at Coral Bay
Coralli Restaurant is the best of the beach-facing tavernas: sea bass and sea bream fresh from local boats, grilled halloumi, freshly made tzatziki. Prices are honest.
Coral Bay Village restaurants (a 5-minute walk back into the village) offer better value and more authentic cooking than the beach-front competition. The souvla (whole lamb spit-roast, available Sundays only) at local butcher-restaurants in Peyia is a genuine treat.
Avoid: The large chain-style beach restaurants at the south end of the promenade that cater to hotel tours — overpriced and generic.
Nearby attractions: making a day of Coral Bay
Coral Bay is not just a beach destination — it is the gateway to the Akamas Peninsula. Within 20 minutes by car:
- Baths of Aphrodite — mythical bathing pool of the goddess of love, in a grotto under a fig tree.
- Cape Drepanum — the headland at the north end of Coral Bay, with ruins of ancient Maa-Palaeokastro (a Late Bronze Age fortress) and sweeping views.
- Avakas Gorge — a dramatic limestone canyon, 30 minutes drive, excellent for a 2-hour hike. One of Cyprus’s most impressive natural features.
For the Blue Lagoon and Lara Beach, boat trips depart from Latchi (30 minutes north) rather than from Coral Bay itself. Day trips from Paphos covers how to combine these in one day.
Coral Bay vs Paphos harbour beach
Paphos has a beach right in the old town (near the harbour), but it is narrow, pebbly at the southern end, and close to boat traffic. Coral Bay is a far superior swimming beach. If you are based in Paphos town and want a beach day, factor in the 15–20 minute drive — it is worth it.
